Overcoming Your Insecurities to Teach Your Kids French at Home

Overcoming insecurities and fears about teaching a language

As a parent, you want nothing but the best for your kids. However, your insecurities might be holding you back from giving them the gift of a foreign language, specifically French. Don't let your fear of not being fluent or an expert stop you from taking the leap. Your insecurities could be robbing your children of their future.

I was in the same boat a few years ago. I wanted to teach my kids French at home, but I didn't speak a single word of the language. I was scared that I would get all the pronunciations wrong and mess up their chance of becoming fluent. But I didn't let that fear stop me. I took courage and started teaching them French myself.

  • How I overcame my fear of not being fluent in French

At first, it was challenging to find effective resources. YouTube and Pinterest lessons did little to help my kids, and finding time to teach them was difficult. However, I made a long list of reasons to get started on this journey.

Teaching your kids French has many benefits, including improving their brain function, giving them better job prospects, and a better understanding of different cultures, which could lead to travel opportunities in the future.

Raising bilingual kids gives them a chance to immerse themselves in different cultures and communicate with people from different backgrounds. It also provides insane brain benefits that will benefit them for a lifetime.

Although there were highs and lows, fumbling and tumbling, it paid off more than I could've ever imagined. I recently went on a trip to France with my kids, and they ordered my daily cup of coffee in perfect French while we took in the wonderful sights and sounds of little French cafes in the country.

  • Don't let your insecurities hold you back from giving your children the gift of a foreign language

If you're feeling intimidated, don't worry. You don't have to be an expert at everything to teach your kids French. You just need to create a fun, interactive learning environment that allows them to practice and make mistakes without feeling embarrassed.

By taking that first step and stepping out of your comfort zone, you're going to change their lives forever. Don't let your insecurities get in the way of giving your children the gift of a foreign language, specifically French. Dream big for your kids and let's work through your fears together.
